Broken Ones
Father of the broken hearts,
Healer of my soul
Come to me now, I do pray,
come and make me whole.
The broken heart is hard to mend,
my heart is filled with grief.
Father of all fathers now
please come and bring relief.
Your hands are ever gentle,
and Your touch is filled with care
You’re the Alpha and Omega,
but my burden You doth share.
Father of the broken ones,
You give courage to the weak.
Give me strength, I cling to You
it’s Your face that I seek.
Father of the lonely ones,
my Healer and my Friend,
burn away the dross in me
keep my heart until the end.

I used to write quite an abundance of poetry and as I go through cycles of cleaning and organizing, I often come across random poems expressing my heart’s cry from years gone by. Some of them seem worth sharing. I wrote this on May 30th, 2007, while I was interning at the Schloss Heroldeck. I even had made a note after the poem, stating, “I don’t know why I wrote this. It doesn’t reflect my feelings at this time.” Interesting…
But we’ve all been there. In a place of brokenness and despair, realizing that when all is burned away, we have Christ and Christ alone as our Champion, our Savior, our Friend.
He is all we truly need.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
